Valley Blue Sox lineup vs. Newport Gulls 6/24
By Graham Goodman and Kate Endres
The Valley Blue Sox (8-5-1) are at last playing baseball again after two consecutive rainouts June 22 and June 23. Valley travels to the Newport Gulls (8-7-1), a team that it has failed to get the best of in two meetings this season.
After a big road win Sunday over the Sanford Mainers, head coach John Raiola has stuck with a similar starting nine to when the Blue Sox last played three days ago.

Jacob Mulvehill (LeHigh) SP
LHP Jacob Mulvehill makes his first start of the season tonight. Mulvehill is the newest member of the Blue Sox. He joined the team June 16 and has provided much needed depth to the bullpen.
Mulvehill’s first appearance came eight days ago, on the same day he arrived in the Valley. He pitched an important three innings of relief in a game where the Blue Sox used six different arms.
Since, he has made one more appearance, pitching a clean inning in Valley’s 4-3 win over the North Shore Navigators on June 18.
At LeHigh University, Mulvehill made thirteen appearances in 2026, eight of them being starts. He went five innings or more in three, two of them being his final appearances of the season.
He allowed two earned runs across his final two starts.
Nick Tomasetto (Seton Hall) starts at third base for the fourth time this season. Tomasetto was Valley’s opening day third baseman, but Matt Wolfe (Middle Tennessee) and Trey Spees (Western Carolina) have primarily manned the position.
Tomasetto is a bat that Raiola has made an effort to keep in the lineup. Tomasetto has played every infield position besides third base and has made multiple appearances as a DH. He is 6 for 26 this season but has walked nine times. He has been on base in seven of his nine appearances.
Brett Rogers (Murray State) comes in once again batting sixth, the same position he found himself in on the road trip to Sanford. In Valley’s 8-2 win against the Mainers on June 21, Rogers notched his first homerun of the season, scoring himself and Chris Cancel for a two-run affair. The Tennessee native has tallied hits in the past five games for the Blue Sox while also recording a perfect fielding percentage thus far.
The top four hitters in the Blue Sox lineup (Alberti, Myers, Grabau, Harmon) continue to get on base at the highest rate of any hitters on the Blue Sox roster. Each are top five in OBP, all with .357 or higher.
Trevor Harmon returns to the Blue Sox line up at first base. He returns after a brief injury in a homestand against Newport, being hit by a pitch. Harmon has recorded the most hits for this Valley team with 14 hits across 13 games played. While Harmon primarily finds himself at first, he’s also been placed in the designated hitter role for the Blue Sox due to his consistent production at the plate.
